Pre-Columbian Cat Pierced Earrings Authorized Museum Reproduction
Pre-Columbian Cat Earrings are based on a detail from a Peruvian vase depicting a mythological being.
PERU Paracas Culture 250 B.C. to 125 A.D. Authorized Reproduction from the collections of the Lowe Art Museum.
These earrings, are based on a detail from an ovoid (egg shaped) vase from the south coast of Peru, depicting the Paracas mythological Oculate Being. This creature was a composite image with fox, feline, killer whale, and bird attributes. Paracas potters were more interested in the decoration of the ceramic surfaces than in the sculptural form. Incised lines were often filled with brightly colored resins in a post-fired application.
