Japanese Jade & Life Symbol 22KT Gold Plate Pierced Earrings from the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum. The life symbol earrings are finished in Satin Finish 22K Gold Plate and are 1" tall by 3/4" wide and topped with a 4mm Jade Gemstone. Japanese writing characters were introduced to Japan by voyagers from China over 1,200 years ago. This stylized Japanese character signifies life. It is adapted from an intricately carved netsuke used in traditional Japanese dress. The original netsuke is in the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
